I had this comment from a poster on GEI:
You are from that area Dr.B. Are you not evenly remotely interested in taking part in what is to be the possible future (or at least invest in iit?) If I were you I would relish the chance. You could have a farmhouse and land and be proud to be doing your part in rejuvenating your homeland. To me this looks better than investing in KL high rises. Granted there are other problems in Detroit to take on board which I dont know about. But surely this is the Kunstler/Correa/martenson/transitional vision of the future which we will 'decide by choice now or by fate later'

I have to agree with the previous statements. No intelligent person would even think of driving east of the Mississippi. The best thing would would be to export all the Republick of Kalifornia, and half of the Republick of Washington State to that improvished land so that they could experience first hand the necessity of the Second Amendment. Essentially then, lets send all non-gun owners their and see who wins. In either event we would either have a converted group=thinking flock on more sheep, or else a lot less group=think idiots:
Can't we just hold hands and sing Kumbaya? Bang! I guess that answers that!

Let me try to correct some of the above:
"the Coleman Youngs and Kwame Kilpatricks took over". These guys never took over Hamtramck, where Mitch works. It is a separate city, nearly inside Detroit. Also, the new mayor, ex-basketbal star Dave Bing, has a very different character. So dont write the place off.

"This guy is peddling fantasy to foriegners to try and make a quick buck." I spent some time with Mitch and his wife in their gallery, and I certainly dont see him as a "fast buck artist." He impressed me with hsi sincerity, and courage. There are easier ways to make a fast buck. Like being a banker. Even today.

Totally agree with the above comment. I am from Michigan. This guy is peddling fantasy to foriegners to try and make a quick buck. Bringing in new people into Detriot is the same as bringing the prey to the predators.
I had a car breakdown in Detriot once, and in only 15 minutues after I went to call the tow truck the windows were smashed, radio gone, and they tried to push the car away. I was lucky to live through the experience, many are not. If they think you have anything at all, they will take it.

This guy is dreaming. I sincerely hope that it doesn't take him being shot and his wife raped in front of him before he understands the situation.

The situation he is completely failing to understand is that Detroit's problem is not with the physical structure, it is the social structure. As long as you have violent criminals who see people like this guy as sheep to be shorn, you'll have guys like this being idealistic right up to the point where they get mugged by reality. Reality in Detroit is that people SHOULD be afraid of the kind of thing that happened to Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom. Until that changes, which I don't see occurring any time soon, efforts like this are doomed to failure.

Detroit brought it on themselves, too. They ran the productive, law-abiding part of the community out. When those people left, the Coleman Youngs and Kwame Kilpatricks took over and the city went into a vicious downward spiral it may never recover from. It certainly will have no hope of recovery until the REAL rule of law is restored in Detroit. Under its current racist black leadership, such an eventuality ia s LONG way off.
